Welcome to the Protect Our Planes website. Protect our Planes is a volunteer group that works as part of Security at AirVenture in Oshkosh each year. Our mission is to help protect the aircraft that come to Oshkosh each year from over-enthusiastic admirers and to provide information to visitors.
We are looking for volunteers who can ideally commit to volunteering for five work shifts (fewer shifts are also possible). Each work shift is approximately four hours long. Protect Our Plane volunteers report to POP Headquarters near the Forums area. At that time everyone is briefed and provided with gear for the shift. Volunteers must be at least 14 years of age; those 14-17 must be accompanied by an adult and sign a parental consent form.
Registration can be done in person at the POP Headquarters (near the Forums area). Our building is located near Parking Lot B. Registrations for 2009 will be accepted starting on Wednesday, July 22 and will continue until the end of the convention. If you want to prepare your Registration form in advance, use the links provided at the left. Download the form, fill it out and bring it with you to POP HQ.
We will begin volunteer shifts on Sunday, July 26 and end on Sunday, August 2. We operate three shifts each day (7am, 10am, 2pm) and sometimes a fourth evening shift when the need arises. We are one of the few organizations that has volunteer opportunities in all areas of the AirVenture grounds. We rotate our volunteers through all areas, giving you a new experience each shift.
Although we provide training for all newbies, we will have an organized training session at the POP Headquarters on Saturday, July 25 beginning at 5:00pm. POP Headquarters is near Parking Lot B.
If you are interested in volunteering for this excellent group, please come to POP Headquarters beginning Wednesday, July 22 and sign-up. You may also sign-up at the Volunteer Center located near the Red Barn in Camp Scholler and along the flightline in the home-built area.
